Jordan Creek Church

Commercial New Build | 16,185 SqFt

Solon, IA

Jordan Creek Church is a multi-generational worship space designed for a growing congregation in Solon, Iowa. Through an efficient construction method, flexible programming and spaces, and a clear architectural parti, the building supports spiritual connection, community engagement, and long-term adaptability—positioning the church to progress alongside the fast-growing community it serves.

The Opportunity

With Solon’s population expected to double in the coming decade, Jordan Creek Church recognized the need for a permanent facility that could serve both current and future congregants. The leadership team approached Form Function Studio to design a building that would reflect their values, support multi-generational ministry, and evolve over time. The opportunity was to create a worship space that could be built cost-effectively, expand seamlessly, and serve as a spiritual and social anchor.

The Solution

Form Function Studio’s approach to the design was to craft out a worship space that could, in volume, expand its reach without expanding its footprint. This was done with the use of a pre-engineered metal building system to provide expansive main level spaces while providing an opportunity to have growth through the integration of a mezzanine or second level. The building’s organization is through three key components: 1. Worship 2. Gather 3. Fuse [Kids Ministry] The Gathering component is the central hub of the design concept that Worship and FUSE spring from. As designed, when Jordan Creek is ready to take the next phase to reality, each component to the design concept can grow effectively.

The architecture embraces the agrarian landscape around as a pure building form that has been carved into crafted spaces of intrigue and moments of connection. Two, generously sized porches; an entry porch and back porch, organize the building’s three components. The use of a masonry plinth of dark brick grounds the concept into the landscape while the lightness of the white standing seam metal façade and roof create an elegant topping element to the space. Within the volume, expansive views have been placed as vitrines, or portals into the landscape or back to areas of travel, creating opportunities to engage with the passerby, sparking interest and intrigue in the gathering happening within.

For the client, the design provided clarity and confidence in their vision. It offered a tangible framework for growth, a welcoming environment for worship, and a flexible space that reflects the church’s mission. The building is designed to be more than a place of gathering—it’s a foundation for spiritual life, community connection, and generational impact.

The Impact

The Jordan Creek Church building design has empowered the leadership team to move forward with purpose. It transformed abstract goals into a clear architectural vision—one that supports worship, ministry, and outreach with simplicity and strength. For the congregation, the design represents a future rooted in faith, flexibility, and belonging.
